You can add alt text to any image you upload to SchoolStatus Connect, so everyone in your school community can understand what it shows.
Alt text is a short written description of an image. Screen readers read it aloud, which means people who are blind or have low vision get the same information as someone looking at the picture. Adding it is a simple way to support your district's accessibility and ADA efforts.
How to add alt text to an image
Add alt text from the image preview right after you upload the image. Connect uses the same image preview everywhere, including announcements and conversations, so these steps work for any image you upload.
Click on an image you uploaded, whether that's in an Announcement, Conversation, or Library.
In the image Preview, click on the person icon located at the top right corner to add alt text.
Enter a good description and click Save.

Tips for writing good alt text
Good alt text tells the reader what they would miss if they couldn't see the image.
- Keep it short. A sentence or two is usually enough.
- Focus on why the image is there. Describe the details that matter for your message.
- Include any important text in the image. A flyer's date, time, and location should all be in the alt text or in the message itself.
- Skip "image of" or "picture of." Screen readers already tell people it's an image.
- Don't use the file name. Something like "IMG_2041.jpg" doesn't tell the reader anything.
