Adding a Public Announcements Feed to Your Website

With the Connect Public Announcement Website Widget, your district or school website can automatically show your latest Public Announcements. Once it's set up, every new Public Announcement you send in Connect appears on your site without anyone having to copy and paste it over.

You can set up a widget for your whole district, for an individual school, or both. Each one only needs a single line of code added to your website.

Setting up a District widget

A District widget shows a feed of your District-Wide Public Announcements.

1. Log in to SchoolStatus Connect and select Schools.
2. Select your district from the list.
3. Look at the address bar in your browser. Your District ID is the part of the URL that comes after /districts/. It usually starts with your district's name, followed by a mix of letters, numbers, and dashes. Copy the whole ID.
4. In your website's HTML, add this line of code where you want the feed to appear, replacing YOUR-DISTRICT-ID with the ID you copied:

Example: Say your district's page in Connect has this URL:

https://connect.schoolstatus.com/districts/connect-demo-district-01234abc-567de-8910-a1b2-3c4d5e

Your District ID is connect-demo-district-01234abc-567de-8910-a1b2-3c4d5e, so the code you'd add is:

Setting up a School widget

A School widget works the same way, but shows a feed of one school's School-Wide Public Announcements. If you'd like a feed for more than one school, repeat these steps for each school.

1. Log in to SchoolStatus Connect and select Schools.
2. Select the school you want to create a widget for.
3. Look at the address bar in your browser. Your School ID is the part of the URL that comes after /schools/. It usually starts with the school's name, followed by a mix of letters, numbers, and dashes. Copy the whole ID.
4. In your website's HTML, add this line of code where you want the feed to appear, replacing YOUR-SCHOOL-ID with the ID you copied:

Example: Say the school's page in Connect has this URL:

The School ID is connect-demo-school-01234abc-567de-8910-a1b2-3c4d5e, so the code you'd add is:

Tip: Make sure you're using the right path for the ID you copied. District IDs go after /districts/ and School IDs go after /schools/. Mixing them up will keep the feed from loading.

What visitors will see

The widget gives visitors a quick look at the Public Announcements sent to the district or school it's set up for. Each announcement shows as a short preview, and visitors can click any announcement to open the full version in a new tab.

Changing the size of the widget

If the feed looks too small or too large on your page, you can set its width and height right inside the same iframe tag. For example:

This would display the feed 500 pixels wide and 800 pixels tall. Adjust the numbers until it fits nicely with the rest of your page.
