Overview
Joinable Classrooms make it easy for families to enroll themselves in a classroom — no more adding members one by one. The class teacher or admin enables a join code or link, shares it with the group, and families join on their own.
Any manual classroom can be transformed into a Joinable Classroom by simply enabling its join code. Once active, students and guardians can use the code or link to join directly, without any staff intervention needed.
This feature is designed for extracurricular and non-SIS groups, like:
- Sports teams
- Clubs and interest groups
- After-school programs
- Band, choir, or theater

For Coaches & Staff: Setting Up a Joinable Classroom
Before You Begin
A district or school administrator must enable Joinable Classrooms for your school before you can enable join codes. If you don't see the option in your classroom, reach out to your administrator to request access.
Important: Groups with Students from Multiple Campuses
When a family joins a classroom using a join code, they are also enrolled in that classroom's school and will receive school-wide communications from it. For most groups this is fine, but if your group permanently includes students from multiple campuses — such as a district-wide club or a competitive team — this may not be the right setup. Contact Connect Support and we'll help you find the best way to set this up for your situation.
Step 1. Create a Manual Classroom
If you haven't already, create a new classroom manually. (If you already have one set up, skip to Step 2.)
Step 2. Enable & Set Up a Join Code
- Open your classroom in Connect.
- Open the three dot menu in Class Cover, and click Join Code
- Use the Join code & QR section toggle to enable the join code
- Under School Access, select which schools' families can use this code to join
- Customize and print a parent flyer with your class details and QR code using the Printable PDF section
When a family joins your class, you'll be notified in the Connect Notification Center
Step 3. Share the Code
Share the QR, PDF flyer or link with your students and families through whatever channel works best: a printed flyer, email, text message, or your school's communication channels.
1. Activate your Join Code |
Use this toggle to activate or deactivate the join code |
2. Regenerate new code |
If a code has been shared too broadly or you want to close enrollment permanently, you can generate a new code at any time. 🚨 The old code will immediately stop working. This action cannot be reversed. |
3. Shareable Link |
Copy and share your classroom link in your communications, whether it’s a message, email, or announcement, to invite your audience to join your classroom. |
4. Downloadable QR code |
You can download and share your classroom QR code in your communications to make it quick and easy for your audience to join your classroom. |
5. Select your school(s) |
School Access allows you to choose which school or schools can join your classroom using your classroom join code. |
6. Generate a PDF |
You can also generate a printable PDF to share with your school through handouts, flyers, or other printed materials. Make sure you fill out the required fields:
You can also add a custom message in your PDF. |
Managing Join Codes
Regenerating a Join Code
If a code has been shared too broadly, you can generate a new code at any time. The old code will immediately stop working
- Visit your class, open the Join Code page
- Click Generate new code, confirm
- Share the new code with anyone who still needs to join.
Pausing a code temporarily
If you need to temporarily pause enrollment, you can disable the code and re-enable it again whenever you're ready.
Removing a Member
You can still remove members manually at any time, just as you would in a standard manual classroom.
For Students & Guardians: Joining a Classroom
-
Scan the QR code or tap the join link shared by your coach or staff member.
- If asked, log into your Connect account
-
Select the student that needs to be part of the class and confirm
-
You're in! You and your family will now receive messages and updates from that classroom
Joining a classroom enrolls your student and all connected guardians into the class
For Administrators: Controlling Access
Enabling Join Codes for Your School
As a district or school administrator, you control whether teachers can enable join codes for their manual classrooms. When this setting is on, classroom admins at that school can generate and share join codes. When it's off, the option is hidden from classrooms entirely
-
Go to School or District Settings
-
Find and update the “Allow join codes in manual classrooms” setting
Important: Groups with Students from Multiple Campuses
When a family joins a classroom using a join code, they are also enrolled in that classroom's school and will receive school-wide communications from it. For most groups this is fine, but if your group permanently includes students from multiple campuses — such as a district-wide club or a competitive team — this may not be the right setup. Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can anyone with a join code enroll?
A: Only existing Connect users, students, and guardians already in your district can use a join code to enroll. Join codes don't allow new users to create accounts or access Connect from outside your district.
Q: What if someone shares the code with the wrong person?
A: You can regenerate the code at any time to prevent further enrollments. Any members already enrolled will remain in the classroom; you can remove them manually if needed.
Q: Can I remove someone who joined by mistake?
A: Yes! You can remove members manually at any time, just as you would in a standard manual classroom.
Q: Can I use join codes for SIS-synced classrooms?
A: No. Join codes are only available for manually created classrooms.
Q: Can non-primary guardians join using a code?
A: At this time, join code enrollment is available to primary guardians and students. Check with your administrator for the latest on Guardian access.
Q: I don't see the option to enable a join code for my class. Why?
A: This feature must be enabled by a district or school administrator. Reach out to your admin to request access.
Q: I tried to join a classroom, but getting an error. Why?
A: You may encounter one of the error messages below when attempting to join a classroom. If this happens, we recommend contacting your school staff for assistance. This may occur because the classroom code was disabled or you are not associated with a student who can be assigned to this class.
