Sharing videos is an effective way to communicate with parents and update them with their child’s progress or anything that is happening in the class. From sending a simple welcome message to capturing those special memories in the class, or even providing instructions that the kids can do while at home. These can all be best communicated to the parents by sending them a video.
SchoolStatus Connect allows Teachers to upload a maximum of 500 MB (megabytes) of video. Please note that video file size is dependent on your camera settings. Before uploading any video to SchoolStatus Connect, it will be best to check your camera phone settings first to get an idea of how large, in terms of MB, a one-minute video could be. A one-minute video taken via iPhone with 720p HD at 30 fps setting is about 60 MB, so a video of 8-9 min long should work. You can check your iPhone camera settings via Settings > Camera > Record Video. It shows something like this:
- Take a video while using the app and upload it
- Upload a video that is already saved on your phone
- Embed a YouTube or Vimeo URL
Take a video while using the app and upload it
(1) Once on your class Home page, click the green plus key on the upper right side of the page
(2) Choose Announcement
(3) Fill out the Title and Message boxes
(4) On the bottom part, click the green plus button
(5) Choose Take Photo or Video
(6) Choose Video
Note: You can also flip the camera if you’d like to record yourself.
(7) Click the red button to start recording
(8) Once you’re done recording, click the square red button
(9)Once you are done recording, you can play the video and decide to retake or use the current recording
The upload process will start and once completed, a green check mark will appear
(10) You can click Preview to show you what it would look like when parents receive the notification through their email/phone number.
(11) Click Send and the page will direct you to the Announcement where you can see the video that you just took. It will also show a play button to play the video.
Upload a video that is already saved on your phone
(1) Starting on your class Home page, click the green plus key on the upper right side of the page
(2) Choose Announcement
(3) Fill out the Title and Message boxes
(4) Click the green plus icon
(5) Choose Photo Library to redirect to your phone's gallery.
(6) Click the Videos folder or the folder where your videos are saved
(7) Click the specific video that you’d like to upload
(8) Click Add
(9) Again, upload process will start and once completed, a green check mark would appear
(10) Click Preview to review everything and if you're all set
(11) Click Send
Embed a YouTube or Vimeo URL
(1) Click the green plus key on the upper right side of the page
(2) Choose Announcement
(3) Fill out the Title and Message boxes
(4) Click the YouTube icon
(5) Choose your preference on how you'll upload the YouTube video
(6) After choosing the video, it should show at the bottom of your Announcement draft
(7) Click Update
The page will direct you to the Announcement where you can see the embedded YouTube or Vimeo video. It will also show a play button to play the video.
