Can users receive communications if we don't send them invitations?
Absolutely! If users exist on the platform, you can already communicate with them. They will receive emails or SMS depending on communication preferences and the type of communication sent to them. They can also respond to your communications without ever logging in.
Why should users log in then?
Logging in to Connect unlocks additional benefits for users. They can:
- View all communications in one place
- Adjust communication preferences
- Create and send new communications (e.g. start conversations with teachers)
- Receive push notifications through the mobile app
While not required, logging in provides users with a more complete and streamlined experience.
Does it work the same way for all types of users?
While it works as described above for staff and guardian users, only students whose accounts have been enabled can log into Connect. These are the students who may receive invitations to log in.
To summarize, you can welcome staff, families, and students to SchoolStatus Connect in two key ways:
- Send an Announcement, Newsletter, or a Conversation message
- Send a formal SchoolStatus Connect Login Invitation
How to send a formal Invitation
Sending a SchoolStatus Connect Invitation is a clear and formal way to invite staff, guardians, and/or students with enabled accounts to log in to their SchoolStatus Connect account, but it is NOT required. To learn more about enabling student accounts, click here. New users added to SchoolStatus Connect can still begin receiving communications sent by teachers, staff, or school leaders – even if they have never received a formal Invitation.
Here’s how you can send a formal SchoolStatus Connect Invitation to new contacts:
- Visit the School Directory.
- Select the People button.
- Select Send Invitations.
- Choose the audience(s) for which you would like to send Invitations.
- Click Send.
Invitations will be sent to all users from your selected invitation audience who have NOT already logged in and joined your school on SchoolStatus Connect. Staff, guardians, and students who have already logged in to Connect will not receive another invitation.

You may wish to repeat this process periodically to send login invitations to new users throughout the year.
Note: Even if you never send a formal Invitation, new users can still receive your communications and join your school.
Upon a user's first time login, they will be prompted to select a password and their language preference. Now, they can sign in to their SchoolStatus Connect account any time they want.
